Interested in opinions out there on two counts

1. Hop pellets - does anyonme sense that there is high variability between batches of hops ie the return you get for the same allocation of hops

2. What hopping regimes do people use for Saaz. I have been doing 20 grms for 20 minutes and then a further 20 gms on flameout. This year the results of winter brewing have been a bit lacklustre (hence question 1)

I mostly use saaz plugs not pellets, usually one 1-5min before flame out. Depends alot on what your making tho :)

When ive used saaz i will use 20grams for under 5min to keep the aroma and get some taste.

This turns out great in a couple of pilsners ive put together

I think the most variation you'll see is in age. If your brew shop doesn't move a lot of stock they may have been sitting there for a long time in less than ideal conditions.
Stale hops will give you stale beer.

MFS.
