Hey all, I just threw down my first hefe last night. In the spirit of weissbiers I went and bought myself a couple bottles of Konig Ludwig, would have preffered Paulaner but they didn't have any. Anyways... has anybody tried culturing these yeast from the bottle? I remember attempting to revive some yeast from a case of paulaner a few years ago but it didn't work.

Konig Ludwig's yeast seems to have a very unique taste from the other German wheat beers I have sampled. Its almost like a smokey-oak bubblegum like flavour, would be interesting to try on one of my brews.

I tried Paulaner once, from a bottle I brought back from Germany, and it failed.

My current weizen yeast comes from Hofbru hefeweizen. I've cultured this a few times with great results.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is with Paulaner, I assume if you brought back a bottle from Germany it would have been reasonably fresh, at least fresher than the import bottles you find at the beer store.

I can' help with Paulaner or others, but I have had success from Schneider Edel-weisse before.

I have seen recipes using a full bottle of Konig Ludwig as a yeast culture, so it appears to be the genuine article and may be easy to culture.
