Glesgay Ale

Ale - Scottish Light Ale
All Grain

Brewer's Notes

Sort of an accidental Scottish 70. Used Powells malt in a single infusion mash and only managed to get 50% efficiency.
Important notes:
Run first 4 litres of runnings into a separate pot and boil down to about 2 litres to caramelise. This gave some really nice toffee notes to a low gravity beer. Yeast choice was not as good as I'd hoped Wyeast 2278 dried the beer out far too much (fermented at 14-15 deg.). Next time I'd use a yeast that ferments cleanly with little or no esters but does not attenuate too much. Wyeast Euro Ale 1388(?) comes to mind.
