Hey, What would be better for bittering in a Amber APA, Green Bullet or POR?

I adjusted the Alpha of my POR. Its 2008 and has been stored in the freezer. Beersmith tells me the Alpha has droped from 8.3% to 4.3%, is that right?

How does my recipe look?

Yep hops diminish by 50% per year.

For my tastes and also because your using cascade and centennial I would use the green bullet for bittering. Green bullet is more within the hop flavour profile of you flavour and aroma hops IMHO. POR is a little too grassy and might over power the finish palate of your beer.

Thanks Chappo. I plugged the Green Bullets into Beersmith and they only dropped from 13% to 10%.

How are my late additions, i want it hoppy but not IPA hoppy?

Damian,

Go ahead and use the hops according to Beersmiths hop ageing tool for experience. I use 50% of the time when ageing if the hops have been stored in the freezer. First time using the ageing tool with a high Alpha hop the resulting beer was way too bitter, next time I reduced the time (Years) by half and bittering was fine.

Cheers,

Screwy

Yep agree with Screwy. Solid advice as usual from a brewing great! (Now he is gunna think somethings up LOL!)

Damien,
Depends on your tastes but you have 46grs of aroma hopping there which will also contribute to flavour depending on how you chill to ferment temp. I would suggest 46grs of late additions IMO is borderline hoppy so you could dial that back by a 1/3rd if you are neverous. If it was me to my tastes I would stick with what you have. Sorry for the wish washy response but tastes are a personal preference thingo which is completely subjective.

Green Bullet is the Steinlager hop, eh bro.

Green Bullets go great guns in a stout.

I marked my Green Bullets down to 8.2% from 13%. Unfortunately i didn't have enough of the stuff, so the bitterness was 50% Green Bullets and 50% POR. I needed 43 grams of POR (4.3%) for a 50L batch. I hope it wont be to noticeable. The wort tasted very grassy, but that could be from the other hops. It was a nice grassy but.

I burnt the crap out of my hand with boiling water right at the start of the day. It was a painful brewday, but every thing else went smooth. YAY.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.
