Hi all,

I would really appreciate your views on this dark larger recipe I've developed:

Muntons Medium Malt Extract
1.2kg Dry Malt Extract
250g of crushed Chocolate Grain (20 mins)
220g crushed Crystal Malt
50g crushed Roasted Barley (20 mins)
30g Hallertau (50 mins)
25g Hallertau (15 mins)
Half tsp Irish Moss (15 mins)
Saflager

Any suggestions / criticisms welcome!

Many thanks,

Floyd

P.S, posted this in the wrong forum originally... Apologies for cross posting!

I hope you're not going to put the grain straight into the pot. That's a no-no.
Steep it in a large coffee plunger for about 1hr first, then pour the wort into your pot, and rinse(sparge) the grain, pouring that water in too.
Hope this helps.

no need for the irish moss either.
looks good. maybe just a little blast of Hallertau at flameout or @5min.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm planning on steeping all the grains in muslin sacks at 65c-70c for 20mins then doing the boil. Instead of 20 mins, can I do this for an hour as I don't have a coffee plunger?

Thanks again,

Floyd

15g or so. depends on how much aroma/flavouring you like. 15g is the min I recon. max 25g.

I just done 2 modified kits today and I steep the grain for an hour in a 2ltr thermos (77c), then I sparge with about 1.5ltr of 72c water then I boil/simmer for 20 minutes with hops and anything else you want in there. works well for me.
heres a good one I do, I throw in 20gm corriander seeds (crushed) and orange peel into the boil, makes a good beer, better on a light beer though

shit I haven't posted here in while...............heheh,back into it again:)
