off topic heaps but....
ben i know ag may or may not be cheaper but like any hobby/passion i reckon cost becomes irrelevant when you are enjoying what you are doing.you may notice from my details i live in arnhemland so you can imagine what freight costs me and others like the grumpys freight deal.it aint bloody cheap....but i still brew cause i love it.
and the ag thing is great as i get to build up something from scratch and scrounging and change it as i go to try and achieve a great beer.
reckon jm is another mad keen passionate brewer.

cheers
big d

oh and i rack on day 3-4 when i remember

Call me crayzee but after much thought I reckon the economics are pretty good. Its nearly $30 for a carton of full strength crap these days .... by my calcs I can produce an AG brew for about $30 and that is 20L - 23L ...

Agree with Big D on the enjoyment and getting to build stuff part :p , it's like a toy but it produces beer

EDIT: oh and I rack after 5 - 7 days. No science, usually w/ends.

As a kit brewer using LME and dry hops - usual brew cost around 22.00
When i do partial mashing - cost is around 28.00 - 30.00.

Barley Wines - closer to 40.00

The AG will be cheaper than this.
