I may be confusing people with my lables I call my water boiler a 'kettle' and my wort boiler a 'HLT' (just bear that in mind)

Then why don't you call them by their correct names so everyone understands?

You've reversed the names for some reason. HLT is the container of hot water (the 'liquor') and the kettle is what boils the wort. It's not 'kettle' as in the thing you heat water for a cup of tea! h34r:

NRB my sincere apologies for the confusion I may have caused

I still boil water in a 'kettle' for my cuppa tea, so there was some logic in my wandering up the wrong avenue of life

in your boiler and HLT - have you used 1/2" bsp SS compression fittings.

If so..can you please let me know where to track them down from..

I have had these compression fittings years , however I have seen them at Pirtek they dont stock they have to be ordered they are pricey these days

Yes they are 1/2" BSP

That's where I got my compression fittings from. but, like Pumpy says, they weren't cheap..

One of the great things about a pump is you can 'underlet' the mash water into the Mash tun full of grain that is a revelation ,no bloody stirring and lumps its magic .

Jez,

T&S valves definately are a great source for the ball valves - however the TS Locks are physically 1/2" requiring a slightly different thread - possibly the pitch of the thread is not 100% compatible with std BSP fittings...

I underlet without a pump still want a pump mashing in the morning without one.

I wish I hasd known that a gravity fed system would have underlet sucessfully all those years stirring the big lumps out the mash :angry: I should have tried it

any comments regarding priming the pump during your brew day - no issues?

Initially yes but I found that there must be some air trapped in there somewhere but i would switch off the motor and give it a bit more timeto prime and then it would start flowing .

I tested it with plain water first and then I thought would there be enough flow from the tun but it all worked fine when it was primed

but no real dramas

Good thanks Justin like I said it was your last post on your brewery and your explanations ,that made me get off my backside and make the effort , I cant believe how well it all works .

Your right it seem a lot more civilised not climbing ladders etc .

I am wrapped, I hope my pics encourage others .
