I was meant to put my promash from my pc to my lap top or both if that's possible.
I am not online on the laptop, but that shouldn't matter.

Are there any quick ways to do this without fumbling around too much?

I am going to have a dig at it on this x-mas break if given half a chance.

Any tips?

Cheers
Matti

have you got a flash drive?
i saved my copy to one of them and use it on either computer at home, or take it to work and tweak recipes there. only thing about saving it on two different computers if you go that way is keeping the recipes straight. hope that helps.

I'haven't got a clue what flash drive is, but intending to find out.
Any chance it is something similar to a memory stick?
Cheers
(Sounds simple then)

Hello Matti,

Same thing.

Regards

Graeme

Yeah, just a USB memory stick. Make sure you copy it all onto a cd though as well, cause those little suckers are easy to lose. All you have to do is make sure you actuallu save your recipes to the USB drive and not onto your computer and you'll be fine. Works just as well if you put the folder in a network and put a shortcut to the promash executable file on the desktop of each pc you want to use it from. The you don;t have to worry abou tht eUSB drive stick.

And they are not as reliable, or long lived, as a CD or HD.
I back my beersmith to the hard drive of my desktop after bottling every brew.

I actually have it installed to a flash drive then just plug it in to the pc I want to use and go start/run/path when I want a session at work home or on laptop

I did it today.
It was a breeze.
Cheers all

way to go matti. glad to help.

now...about this "Dry 'til Xmas" thing

I personally back everything up on floppies- the biggest annoyance is having to lock the disk in when I put it in :p

No problem with my pc.
Drinking toohey Xtra dry

Just can't help myself B)

i don't use beermash or prosmith but i have an automated backup to the net once a week of all my recipes and a general beer folder. then it's spread over multiple HD's. HD's have moving parts by the way. Flash drives don't.

But, flash drives are moved around, put in bags, dropped, pulled awkwardly out of usb slots, sat on, rained on, you get the picture :)

Send it to yourself in an email... then it's not your fault if it gets wiped.

So let me get this right, you can actually INSTALL it on a flash drive or CD and use it on any PC?
I never thought of doing that. Thanks guys wiil try it out.

Note it does take ages to install due to the limitations of reading / writing to the flash drive but works fine once done. I will bring mine tomorrow to the case swap and we can plug it into GL's pc if he will let me
