I noticed Peroni Gran Riserva was a new addition at my local Dan Murphys. It caught my eye with the label of "birra doppio malto".

I was expecting a standard euro lager, but the ABV of 6.6% gave me a sense of hope.

It poured light golden with a small tight head, lulling me into a false sense of macro lager. The aroma was nice and malty. Hmm, things are looking up. Then I had a taste.

I was still expecting something bland when I was hit in the face with a malty taste sensation! There was loads of malt flavour, really nice big body and a nice balance bitterness to round it out. This is a really tasty beer. If it was a little darker, I'd swear it was an octoberfest.

If you see it, grab one, it's definitely worth a try. There's a serious lack of good big-bodied lagers on the market I reckon.

And the bottle is seriously heavy. Like Duvel heavy. I wonder why, it wasn't super carbonated?
