Our club name, What is it, What should it be?

Hi All,

It has come to my attention that there is a little discrepancy with our club name. Aparently our forefathers started the group as 'Central Coast Craft Brewers' (CCCB), however, I found out about it on here, AHB, where it is 'Central Coast Brewers' (CCB).
I have been advertising the club, both through word and interweb as the Central Coast Brewers, but I dont want to offend any of the elders, and I also want us to all be on the same level, and have pride of our merry band, having had input.

I intend this poll to scope the thoughts of you all, but also so we can discuss it at our next meeting with the initial arguments already out on the table.

A quick run down on the choices:

Keep the same (original) - Central Coast Craft Brewers
This is evidently what the original group was called when created, before my time

Keep the same (AHB) - Central Coast Brewers
This is what it is called here, AHB, what I have known it as and the name the website uses.

A name that has a strenuous meaning, but initials spell something:
There are a few examples of this around:
The Ballarat and Region Craft Brewers (B.A.R)
Pine Rivers Underground Brewing Society (PUBS)
Hunter All Grain (HAG)
I dont think many of them are still going, but you get the gist.

The Central Coast Craft Brewers is a government registered official non-profit organisation AFAIK.
The guy that started it - I don't remember his actual name, "Sama", dropped off the radar, and I only met him at the first few meetings.
We paid initial membership fees (which I think was part of the guv'mnt registering of it all).

Previously we met in parks in Long Jetty, and once we tried for the hall at Ourimbah oval, but the key-master never turned up.
(or maybe it was double-booked with a ladies volleyball club party - or was that just the lie I told the guys who didn't turn up that time?!)

I've sent an enquiry to the NSW club registry too see if they have any record.
I don't know who made the club section here, maybe the "CCB" name is correct, and I'm wrong - It wouldn't bee the first time.

i always assumed CCCB was a play on CCCP, but maybe just because I'm old enough to remember it. :blink:

So it was CCCB, but now it doesn't matter.

Thanks for that Wibs, I was also unaware that it was actually registered at one stage. I wonder why it was cancelled?

This adds another question, which has been on the back of my mind, do we register as an org?

I'd go with "Central Coast Brewers" unless someone can think of a funny acronym. Maybe "BOG" - Brewers Of Gosford.

I don't see much need to make anything official, but that's just following the general principle of keeping things simple.

Anyway, if we register as an org then we'll have to wear tin foil hats when we have our meetings. We don't want the CIA knowing what we talk about.

Good to see theres still some interest in the brew club.I started it long ago and we had a few great meetings,even a case swap.Interest fell off and it was hard to have members committed for board positions and such. So after a few years i closed it down so there was no issues with lodging statemants etc. If your not gonna fill a board and the yearly forms and shite your better just running it casually i think.

To add ,one of the reasons I formed the club as an official association was liability.Unfortunately it is something you need to worry about these days.If there's an accident (someone slips down the stairs or god forbid some randomn drunk glasses someone at your organised event at your house) and things turn nasty,compensation wise the association takes the brunt to a degree. Not saying this would ever happen but hey,its something to consider.

Hi Sama,

Thanks for putting your experience forward, and for starting the club in the beginning too.
The liability reason is one of the reasons I think officialising the club is a good idea, we have been getting more members in the last 6 months, so its starting to be more than a few friends sharing a beer.

If you dont mind me asking, how much paperwork is there on a yearly basis, and how much of a pain in the arse is it?
