What sort of kit are you looking for JBS?
Kits, extract, grain ?
Also please fill in your profile details to include your location.

keeping things pretty simple at the moment just been doing morgans bitter, about 6 or so batches

Cheers Jon

My advice would be to go with Grumpys (masterbrews for me). I took some time to get my brewing in order by trying some commercial kits and since jumping to their stuff haven't looked back.

I now buy a few kits at a time to save on the freight cost. If I buy 1 or 4 it costs $15 to post. Enjoying a boston right now.

I have dealt with and been happy with both The Country BrewerThe Country Brewer and ESB.

Both of these guys have really good service and easy to use websites - I haven't had any dramas with them.

Most homebrew shops will try and help you.

If you have any visitors calling in, and they travel past your HBS, give the HBS a ring, they will organise your order, charge your credit card and have the package ready for your visitors to pick up on their way through.

I agree, anyone visiting from Sydney should be made to bring an ESB fresh wort kit with them. Thats the one I try to pull anyway .. and it saves on postage.

Would be interesting to have a rating panel of the various online/offline homebrew stores around. Like the E-Bay seller feedback. I guess the idea gets squashed by the threat of "slander" suits hanging over the sites head and that kinda thing.

Strange that. The American sites such as Brewboard seem able to have forums on HBS's. If they can do that in such a litigious country, why can't we here?

I don't think litigation comes into it. I think most are pretty good, it is really the ease of use of thier sites, thier range of products, thier prices and thier policies that comes into. Someone that is close and might save on postage is also good.

The reality is, that if you have a genuine bad experience then it is valid to let others know, it's what the net is about.

For me .. I maybe looked at a few. The ones I cut them down to closely consider are G&G, Grumpies, Country Brewer and ESB. G&G is ok but I just don't have time for thier cut and paste - email - shopping cart to get simple things. Might try them in the future maybe when looking for AG Stuff. Grumpies .. they just have a bad feeling, they won't post to PO Boxes and well .. I could not be bothered with them. I might try them later this year for Rhizomes. Country Brewer has a good range of kits and bits and peices .. thier cart is easy and they are in my state ... ESB is good for thier bits and peices kits, fresh yeast and fresh wort kits. I have sometimes paid online and then had people visiting from Sydney to bring them down. Both of these guys have provided good service when things don't go as planned, especially ESB.

No affiliation blah blah blah .....but Jagungal - you're missing out on some excellent Grumpies products just because of a bad feeling
Cheers
Steve

P.S. How do you squeeze a fermenter into a PO Box? :D

I see you have never used a PO Box .. You can post anything to a post office, even a 15 Litre fresh wort kits. It's a silly policy and certain enquiries have given one the feeling that the attitude is just not there. Of course I could be mistaken but this is all about personal experiences right. I am sure others have found grumpies to be ok.

If one is going to get a large item then it is best to just wait to you visit the big centers .. apart from that getting smaller items over the post is quite convienient when you don't have a brew shop in the next suburb.

Nope - never used a PO Box - I was being sarcastic. Yep, agree, each to their own, everyone has their own personal reasons for using one supplier over the next.

I think the reason that Grumpy's don't send to PO boxes, is that they use courier services

I use a PO Box, and there isnt a courier in Australia that will deliver to it, dont see how that can be described as silly.

And nothing wrong with getting the courier to deliver to neighbor, mate, work Etc.

I have had couriers deliver to a post office no problem. How do you know where someone works, not everyone works in a factory in the city. In my case I have had things delivered to work but it is a hassle as your parcel has to go through the company system and be addressed to the company.
