Haha just joking.

I did do something stupid last night however.

Was doing an extract APA style brew last night with a 12L boil. The pot had the steeped juice of 300g of medium crystal and 300g of carapils with 1kg of ldme. Boiled that for 60min with 20g Chinook 60min, 20g cascade 30min, 20g cascade 5min.

All was going well, chucked in some irish moss at 5min to go. Took it off the boil, cooled it in an ice bath. Walk into the kitchen and spot my tin of Amber LME sitting on the bench (oh sh!t).

Warm that up (not enough) in a saucepan with hot water, tip in the fermenter then proceed to pour my boiled wort in. It was under 22deg after topping to 23l with cold water so pitched the US-05. Thought I had done well, took an O.G. hydro reading and it was waaaaaaaay lower than predicted (like 1.030). Went to bed confused as hell.

Woke up this morning and realized what had happened. All that LME wasn't stirred in and is sitting like a big malty lump on the bottom and hence the low reading. I then proceeded to panic. Surgeon style washed my hands and star-san'd my stirring spoon. Got in there and dug up some of the brown goo off the bottom and pretty unsuccessfully tried to mix it in.

Anyway that was my last 12hours.

Have I just wasted $40 worth of ingredients and an evening? Will that LME dissolve over time or will the yeast just park up on top of it and call it a day.

I may have ~23l of very bitter (thank you chinook) 3% beer.

Sure it will be ok. I've seen undissolved lumps of DME get torn to bits by the yeast, so I'm sure that they'll manage to get through a lump of LME. :) Maybe won't be quite what you want, but won't be a disaster.

RDWHAHB. If the yeast can touch it it'll be torn to shreds, like wood in a chipper.

Also I just found the extra 400g of LDME sitting on the bench that was supposed to go in with it. Too late for that? (nearly 18 hours after pitching).

Just pour it in, People stress too much. Also try removing the kitten from the airlock.

Yeah probably had consumed too much of the first batch whilst brewing. Combined with the "I don't need to print out the brewday sheet this time".

Forums incite stress but then also can sometimes relieve it.

I will throw in the LDME and close the cupboard for a few weeks.

Dam kittens love them some CO2. Won't leave me any for the therapeutic gurgling sounds

I did the same thing with my last brewday, except my printer was out of ink so couldn't print out a brew sheet rather than didn't need/want to.

Still went ok, but nowhere near as stress free and smooth as when I tick off each thing I do on the sheet.
