potentially stupid question *dons flame suit* but if you were mounting these taps into a collar on a chest freezer, do you still need an SS shank (I am thinking the answer is yes).

Seeing as though Brendo led with the 'silly' and i tagged along, it's my turn to further reveal my ignorance.

So the tap connects to the shank, shanks sits through the door/collar (effectively a way of mounting the tap), then something like this : http://www.craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=3029
is connected to the shank to allow the beer line to be connected (i think there is also a john guest fitting getting around that does the job too).

That's correct mate... I use JG fittings elsewhere, so would probably favour one of those for this type of set up, easier to pull apart for cleaning.
 
No worries, yeah JG fittings seems the go, no messing with clamps etc.

pfft clamps, I've never used a clamp on a beer line in my life, and I don't think theyre ever going to come off the barbs. I've tried getting them of a bunch of ways and the only way they come off is by cutting them. Pulling them results in either breaking the disconnect of the line, even when theyre pressurized.

but yeah you're right, something liek that is the go IF your shank doesn't come with one. Most shanks usually come with a nipple or something at the end as well as the lock nut, but that could be a choice of the store owner. I've noticed craftbrewer and northern brewer both sell the shanks without an end attachment. Morebeer's brass ones have a welded nipple on which I reckon is sexy, but I opted for S/S so have a screw on thing. I might go to JG one day, but these are working mighty fine as it is...
 
Latest Update. I got a quote for $202 for shipping, which is $165 cheaper!

I am still waiting on another quote, which I should have by Friday. Sorry for teh delays, but I'm just trying to make it cheaper and easier.
