Yep.

That's the one I've got Pete. Does the job pretty well. Can't argue with the price either. :beerbang:

Good luck Pete.

If Qld. wrecker's yards are anything like the Vic ones you'll find it a frustrating experience. The ones around here wouldn't let go of a motor of any vintage for under $30. <_<

I've never known a profession that displays so much attitude and views you with so much suspicion when you've got an enquiry.

Yep, that's the one TPete. I may have paid $13 for it too, but about that anyway.

$30 is a bit steep for a wiper motor. You've got to watch some of those bloody wreckers. They'll charge the earth for a part especially if they think your desperate. I have a 30 yr old car, although there are a million and one escorts around parts are beginning to get rarer if you want to buy a new kit of something (eg. starter motor kit).

You'd think though that they'd be happy give you a wiper motor off a commodore for $5. Not like there is really going to be a huge demand or shortage. The wrecker I go to is a bit better than most but you just go for a wander through the car bodies and take off the parts you want yourself. However down here in Hobart (and I assume elsewhere) things are a bit more organised (and costly) in that you ask for a part and they walk out the back and get it off the shelf. Prices tend to be a bit dearer then too.

Good luck, keep searching. Just need someone with a wreck in their back yard.

Long story short I was at a flea market on the weekend. One vendor was selling cordless drill chucks (plastic) for about $3 each. Upon observing the chucks I noticed they had a female thread in them. Could they have possibly matched the male thread on a wiper motor?

Unfortunately Warren they don't, as I found out today... :(
Unless your wiper motor has a different thread to mine, they are too small a diameter for drill chucks...

cheers Ross

Bugger. :(

Thought it may be too easy. Thanks for being the one that invested the $3 Ross. :D

I'd suspect that thread sizes would be similar in most wiper motors.

Only investment was fuel & time, running round everywhere with it trying to get something to fit.
Anyway, I've come up with a design & hopefully putting it together next week - I'll post pics if it works ;) ...

XD falcom wiper motors would be one to go for.

Used to used them on open fire spits turning 40kg pigs without counterweights and they worked a treat. :super:

They have metric threads on the shaft.

The boys at Ipswich could get you a whole car cheaper that the wiper motor from the wreckers

I powered my recently aquired C&S crusher with a ND (assume Toyota) wind screen wiper motor which I picked up from the local wreckers for $10.

I made the connection between the motor and crusher using a piece of Alumin tube (12mm OD and 9mm ID) about 50mm long. The tube was a loose fit ("like a sock on a ducks lip") over both of the shafts which allows for any runout and helps to avoid any unnecessary loading on either the motor or the crusher bearings. The motor is mounted to the crusher base board using a couple of peices of Alumin angle and is "flexible" also to accommodate any misalignment

The connection/drive is via a couple of 4mm split pins installed in holes in the tube, motor and crusher shafts. I drilled the Alumin tube, motor and crusher shafts in a drill press as I think it would be quite difficult to do this drilling using a hand held drill.

I have completed two crushes with this set up and it takes about 5 - 6 mins to crush 5kg. At the end of the crush the motor body is quite hot but these things and built like the proverbial so it shouldn't be an issue

Trust someone will find this info of some use

Warren & Justin,

The bronze whaler at the local wreckers wanted $46 for a wiper motor. I am still motorless but am in with a promise (if that's the right expression?) from another AHBer. ;)
