Hello All
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in approx 100litre Stainless steel mashtun.
I dont have one at this stage but, If there is some interest I will look into making some.
ie, Contact Dished and Flange in Melb for radius base then get barrels rolled and purge weld with TIG.

possible polish weld back inside if required. 2x handles and possible 8-10mm solid rod welded to top edge.
can also include S/S 3 peice ball valve maybe 1/2 or 3/4 BSP. with S/S nipple welded to base.

Please reply if any interest and I,ll do the ground work. This may take some time it wont happen overnight. due to keeping costs down, all work done at home.
Ex Boilermaker 18yrs still have all my own gear.

Any idea on what the cost would be approximately?

I have one of these that's similar, made from an old 300ltr hot water tank with the other 200 ltrs to be converted into a kettle one day.
It has 2 sockets for temp probes, drain at base with false bottom and 3 bolts TIG'ed outside for legs that can be removed or to add height.
Works a treat with a half sack batch and the fermentation assistants love it until I make them empty it.
It has a heap of insulation (more now than the pic) to keep temps and I run a wort heater to keep the temp too (herms/rims).

BTW: you can get 70 ltr old stainless LP gas tanks from the scrap yard for about 50 bucks that would be easy to purge and weld/convert as a starter tun.

Luke is that copper?

That would be one dead sexxxyyyy boiler.

The kettle caramelisation factor would be to die for.

Luke,
how dare you put porn like that on the web at this time of day

Roota,
interested but suspect that price will prove a killer :(

Said with the appropriate Fat ******* accent of course!

I'd love a copper boiler!!! Damned base metals prices!

Sorry for the OT post (what is it with me and OT posts recently?!?! :p )

Stainless outdoors in bad light and bad camera skills.
Copper would be a little out of my home brewing budget......
Got the tank for Dave Grumpy/Goliath who lives in Vic now and a few here will remember from ye old days.

Hello Luke
Like the idea of LPG tank, prob need to get it steam cleaned B4 cutting and boiling.
One or 2 questions the picture shown doesn,t seem to have welds polished back. is this OK??
Is the outlet in the bottom of Tun. with S/S mesh above looks like 3mm holes??
Whats the size ie: diameter + length top to bottom. Also top edge thickness please.
Any info is great. TA.

They turn up on ebay every now and then and not sure what grade stainless but they were build to last.
Only drama would be they would be deep rather than wide (compact grain) but would be good for a 50 ltr stainless tun..

Been silver soldered on the inside and not polished (well half ass polished by me).
So its not food grade and not under pressure but the runnings do get a 1 hour plus boil.

Just a false bottom from the above site sponsor G&G.

Just cut down to as long as my arm so I can reach right to the bottom and unscrew the false bottom to clean and the tank metal is about 2 mm thick with a wooden lid. One day I will weld up a nice lid and get some nice shiny legs.

Any info is great. TA.
It cost me under $200 for the tank a few fittings, false bottom and one of these on the front.
not including heat exchange, hoses, temp controller, the list goes on....

The camping mats in the pic lost too much heat & it now has an outer shell with a layer of expandable foam filling the void.

Hope it helps

WOW you have this PM thingy sorted Im still trying to work how to send stuff back etc.
Thanks heaps for info.
Randall.

LPG tanks have a nasty big lip on the inside where the cap is welded into the cylinder. Damned hard to get rid of unless you want to spend the time with a grinder at arms length and then it's very difficult/near impossible to get rid of the lip without perforating the skin. Wall thickness is usually 2.4-3mm. I've done a bit with these cylinders but they are not the easiest to work with.
