Hi All, Looking to replicate the famous Dr Smurto Golden Ale but the LHBS doesn't have the same name malts called for. Are these substitutes ok?

Joe White Traditional Ale, Pale - I will use Jow White Trditional Ale (pretty sure these are the same)
Weyermann Munich I - I will use Joe White Light Munich?
Weyermann Pale Wheat malt - I will use Joe White Malted Wheat?
Joe White Caramalt - I will use Joe White Cara (pretty sure these are identicle).

The only 2 I am kinda worried about is the middle 2. Pretty sure the beer wont be bad either way, all the EBC rating are similiar and everything I have read seems to say they are good subs. Sound ok?

Cheers, Dan

If JW caramalt is as good as BB caramalt I'd have no problems. With the JW Munich I think I heard some bad reports on the forum last year?? We can't get JW hereabouts (BB country here) but I'm sure someone will remember what the kerfuffle was about with the Munich. The rest look fine.

itll be fine mate, your not using anything extraordinarily differnet to the recipe ie it aint like your using chocolate malt instead of caramalt etc etc

I personally don't love JW spec grains, but they can still make a bloody good beer... I reckon my first Golden ale last year would've been all JW malts and very similar to what you have got and it still turned out very nice.

Go forth and brew.

Cheers all, everythings ordered and pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks, Dan
