Hi,

Looking for a Kit & Kilo or Extract/Kit recipe that is close to Kent Old Brown Ale.................. guessing that an English Nut Brown would be a good starting point ???? Have searched other posts on KOBA but only able to find AG recipes. HELP!!

gonna have trouble starting from a kit to get where you want. I'd think about using a pale kit and going K & K then adding some crystal malt and a touch of chocolate malt to get the colour and maltiness you want. From memory its not a hoppy beer so maybe no need to add extra hops, though I would anyway to add extra flavour and aroma. Never used an english nut brown kit so can't say anything good or bad about it.

Ah, Kent Old Brown... I work at the only place in town that sells it so can definitely recommend it as a nice commercial ale.

I would also say that working entirely from kit will be hard, although would recommend this as a starting point:

1 x Coopers Lager Kit
500g light dried malt
300g white sugar
150g Crystal malt
50g Choc malt
50g Amber malt

I'd also throw in about 10~15g of Cluster with the grain wort and boil for 20min to extract a smidge more bitterness and flavour. Ferment the lot with US-05 to give a clean finish and slightly lower final gravity than you would get with something like S-04 and you should be getting close to the grand Kent Old Brown. It might not be an exact clone but it'll get you a beer that is to a similar style and from there you can tweak it to what you want - if you want to change it!

Do you work at the Palace (ex Wallaby Bill Young's pub) ?
