I have my kegs on a wooden platform in the fridge to avoid the compressor as most people do.

However, the highest point I can place a shelf above the kegs for bottles and cans is not really ideal.

1. I barely have enough space to get my hand in to purge or change connections or whatever.

2. The shelf above is unstable and bottles fall over all the time.

I am sure many of you have encountered this and come up with ingenious solutions?

Please share???

Cheers,

Grab a sheet of clear perspex to cover the top shelf. That will stop the unstableness of the bottles and let you see the tops of the kegs.

Make the gas disconnect closest to the door opening longer so it reaches out the door to a keg on the floor.

When you put a keg at the back, leave it at the back. Keep the regular turnarounds at the front. That way, you don't need to play around with the disconnects, the purging should be done before you get it in there, you just need to connect it and go.

I can post pics of my setup (pretty much what I described above) tomorrow if you wish

Thanks n87, I should have also mentioned I am just running picnic taps at the moment, but plan to mount proper taps once I get everything else working?

So this means I have my hand in there all the time!

FYI, my setup: http://aussiehomebrewer.com/topic/235-kegging-setups/page-177#entry1315022
I have since added another 2 taps and a gas manifold.

Is your raised floor stepped? cause that would make a huge difference in accessability.
I made my back step as low as humanly possible, to the point where the back edge of the keg touches the compressor hump.
The front kegs are low enough to be able to reach over easily.

Do you have more than 1 picnic tap? or are you trying to move the same tap around?

I have a picnic tap on each keg and plan to install taps in the door when I get my kegging all sorted?

Stepped floor is a very good idea. I will look into this!

If you have more than one it should be easy, connect once, drape the tap over the shelf and don't touch your kegs.
