I'm looking into making a keg/ferm washer but I'm a bit unsure as to which pump to go for.. I've been reading plenty of threads on various forums, but they're mainly US forums and things can be a little different over there..

Any suggestions?

Anyone?

Pond pump,bilge pump, 12v or 240v??

I just use a pond pump 240v. Some pvc piping, elbows, couple of hoses and disconnects etc. Works well for something that wont cost much more than $50.

I got one that is very similar to: https://www.masters.com.au/product/101135924/universal-submersible-dirty-water-pump-750w

my post is here: http://aussiehomebrewer.com/topic/87682-keg-and-bottle-cleaner/

the pump works very very well. I got a great price on the pump on clearance at Aldi. If I didn't get that one I'd probably go for: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1000W-16500LPH-Water-Pump-Stainless-Steel-Submersible-Dirty-Clean-Garden-Tank-/271473576799?hash=item3f35160b5f:g:mekAAOSw9N1VttXO

- stainless, rated for continuous operation.

That Ebay linked pump would be OK as long as you wash in cold water as its only rated for 30C max

nearly all of the submersible pumps I saw were rated either at 30 or 35C (that were a reasonable price), including fountain pumps etc. I've run mine up to around 50/60 with no ill effects so far...
The pump itself tends to heat up the water over time - which is what is supposed to happen, but as a cooling agent for the pump.

I'm kinda looking at a Bilge pump, just not sure on what temp these are rated at..

I have contacted the seller

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-Submersible-Bilge-Water-Pump-Fishing-Boat-Caravan-Campervan-Camping-1100GPH-/270855275359?

But looking at that section of Ebay, there are heaps of pumps..

Well, there goes that...

Reply from seller;

Thank you for your enquiry.

We regret that we are unable to assure the heat limit of this pump at the moment.

Please note it is a Submersible Bilge Pump.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Best Regards

No idea what temp its rated at, but I've been running hot tap water through mine for the past year or so.

The dirty water pumps are >7500L per hour... Mine is 14500 ;)
