Keg Coupler & Ball Lock's

hi Guys,

i just picked up a Micromatic keg coupler & would like to attach keg posts to both the gas inlet & beer outlet so i can attach standard ball lock QD's. In order to achieve this, i need an adaptor which will screw onto the keg coupler on one side, & allow a gas or liquid ball lock post to screw onto the other side.

Does anyone know where I could obtain a couple of these adaptors?

are they not BSP threads?
if so go get yourself a couple of reducing bushes in 316 stainless steel , i think they are 1/4" and 1/2" but i could be wrong ...

You sometime see these come up on ebay with the older style pin-lock (2 pin) connectors that go from the micromatic to the beer/gas gear. They adapt from the thread on the micromatic to a 3/4" BSP.

have you checked the micromatic site? www.micromatic.com. If you find the proper name of the part you are looking for, try Craig at Keg Systems.

Edit - just found something on the micromatic site - the keg couplers appear to be 5/8 BSP, but you will need to check that out.

Hi Pedro,

You are correct - they are 5/8 BSP which is a rare size. It is not used in general plumbing which is why you need to look at specialist beer plumbers.

Is that a common size in commercial refrigeration? I seem to remember something on the brewery icebank that is about that size.

You have got me there - I tend to keep away from refrigeration as my spanners seem to make them go hiss which costs money

I got my 5/8 to 1/2" adapters from Craig Deakon but I know that the 5/8 to 3/4" ones are readily available from beverage type suppliers.

BTW congrats on your new venture - we will have to compare notes some time over a beer

Hey Crozdog,

The connections I supplied with the coupler suit the usual HB user's beer and gas line sizes, plus with the wing nuts they make for easy removal & cleaning so you may as well just keep them in place :beer:

If you do want to follow your planned route you'll need an adaptor with 5/8" BSP one end and 1/2" BSP on the other. Then you just use Taylor type turrets/posts (the type found on Aussie Coca Cola kegs manufactured by Mytton Rod/Firestone & Rheem).

Hi guys,

thanks for the responses & info.

I'd like to have ball locks on the coupler for a few reasons:

1. to simplify connection into my existing setup.
2. Ball locks will also allow me to use a keg to CC larger volumes of largers
3. they will allow me to directly connect my filter to the keg


I'll give Graig Deacon a bell & see if he will sort me out.
