Hi all,

Ive been brewing for years, but just started doing all grain after a few partials. My first AG was an English bitter. Worked out excellent.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a recipe for my second brew. Im thinking something good for summer. I wouldnt mind a lager, however maintaining 10ish degrees may be hard as the thermostat in my fridge is buggered at the moment, so I'm looking for a nice ale.

I'd say a summer ale. There are several in the recipe section. Ross' summer ale here. or something like Tony's Bright ale. Something simple, base malt with not too much else, single/two hops, US05/1007/Nottingham.

To change your user display name, pm one of the mods/admin, maybe Doc or Dane.

Would not do a lager on your second mash you might be dissapointed

Jayses Skunk Fart APA....its in the recipe section........beautiful beer on a hot, cold, snowy, rainy, frosty, windy, what ever kind of day :p

I did a search, and the Skunk Fart looks pretty nice, but Im not sure which one people are referring to as there is a Skunk Fart Ale and the Skunk Fart XLCR.

G'day Alan,
The original SF recipe has been an absolute fave of mine having that similarity to LCPA but I have started playing with different yeasts and hops to gain a better appreciation of the flavors they contribute. It's a wonderful/ forgiving recipe to mess with. And a stack of fun :super: .

I dont want to seem like a total jerk,
However, if its only your 2nd AG, and your stuck for things to brew, it would seem like you need to spend a few minute thinking about what you really want from the hobby
I dont really understand why you need to ask for input at the moment. Homebrewing is about making decisions for your self, to suit yourself, not having others to do it for you.

Give the bloke a break. He did make a decision to make a summer ale.

I think he is doing the right thing by asking. If he continues with nice easy recipes he will have success and be motivated to continue. If he picks something complicated, or not a good recipe to begin with, it may not go well, and he may be put off doing more. The internet is filled with beer recipes. The hard part is knowing which ones are any good when you are beginning.

I like my summer ales simple. And mashed in the lower temp range.

Here is a typical grain bill I will use.

5.00 kg Pale Malt (Barrett Burston) (3.9 EBC) Grain 90.09 %
0.30 kg Powells Caramalt (Powells Malt) (22.0 EBC) Grain 5.41 %
0.25 kg Powells Wheat (Powells Malts) (2.0 EBC)

I usually mash at 63-65 and use cascade or amarillo. Any hop will do. I usually bitter to about 50 IBU but that is personal preferance.

I was thinking the same thing when deciding to post a comment. Theres lots of recipes out there, and I dont know which are good and which arent.
