Hi.
I was thinking about brewing a Rasberry wheat on my next day off and was wondering how much to add? I have about 600g of frozen at home at the moment. Is that enough for a 20L batch or do I need more?
Also do I need to crush them or just add them whole?

I did a raspberry wheat a few months back. After 7 days primary ferment, I racked the beer onto 2.1kgs of frozen raspberries that I'd thawed first. The wife and her mates loved it. Just chuck them in whole.
Hope this helps :)

I racked onto 3 packs of frozen - 2.1kg. No need to boil or chop or anything just rack onto it gently when primary is about done. Leave it on for a week and it gives you heaps of natural rasperry flavour.

Mitch,
Only just found your questions on my recipe thread, sorry for not replying earlier. Did you end up using a similar recipe?

EDIT: spling

Which thread was that mate? :D
Yeah, I did use the same recipe. It worked really well.

Yeah, when I did my raspberry wheat I used 2 kgs as well. Looked and tasted great and the misses love it.

I used 500g for a 10L batch and that was plenty. I guess it depends how much raspberry flavour you want - in your face or in the background.

I did a raspberry ale 18 months ago, should do it again come to think of it, and I made a double (42L) fermented it for 4 days then racked the beer onto 2 kgs of frozen raspberries. Tasted fantastic.
Don't chop or anything like that, even if you get fresh, just freeze them then whack them in your secondary and rack onto them. You freeze them because (like a lot of berries) it breaks down the outer membrain.

Cheers,

Jay
