Well I only used mine for the first time last night, but I'm very glad to have made the purchase and will use it in every brew from now on :super:
PZ.
Are you bored Pumpy?![]()
Anyway, I only use my hopsock now for the big hop additions, or plug/flowers use. The jumbo one I bought just hangs over the side of the kettle so I don't bother trying to hang it of sorts. The thing I find when adding an addition is to use my mash paddle to weigh it down so it doesn't float. I'm just a little worried about utilisation effects if all the hop 'sludge' is just in a mass and floating on the surface.
Anyone else experience this?
Duff I only use pellets in mine and it sinks no worries, why don't you way it down with something inert like glass marbles ?![]()

Exactly what I do... I noticed mine floating a little the first time I used it, now I drop a clean shot glass into it, makes sure everything sinks...
Cheers

I drop a 1/2 inch Stainless nipple in mine.
I like playing with nipples more than balls
hehehehe
I use a big one like the ones ross selles in the boil and have a large 20 micron one that i filter the cooled wort through to catch most of the break material.
I end up with about 1/2 a liter of light brown "mud" .
Works well for me.
If im using flowers in the boil i use a SS mesh basket to get max flow through the flowers and the finer filter catches any small particles that make it through when im running to the firmenter.
cheers
Mines doing really good, even though the dog ate it. This is what happens when you have a staffy cross - she chews everything and digs up anything. Luckily only the top of it is damaged so the hops don't fall out.

Not quite Pumpy - Tony was only filtering his wort through one, but it did plant the seed... so no royalties I'm afraid![]()
cheers Ross
