Just about to brew an bohemian pilsner and have a question about a 60min hop addition. The recipe i have says to use 47g of Czech Saaz 3.5%. Can i make this up to the same IBU with magnum or will i get a significant flavor change?

Thanks, Jacob

You will get a flavour change, but IMO it won't be significant.

I used to do Boh Pils with a 90 minute addition of PoR (also Galena for the 90 min addition) - and back to back there's a difference; in isolation, not much at all.

Now I use all-Saaz, but to be honest, adding decoction steps to the mash has a bigger affect than subbing out low AA hops for bittering.

Your beer will be fantastic.

Nice response Nick :p
I can't see it having a big impact on flavour. The down fall of high AA hops is if you are out on your weight by 2-3 grams it has a hell of a difference on your IBU.

Edit: Nick will get the joke, I hope.

Where it was just a quote, by itself?

My browser is broken - won't let me write anything in the text area. I can get around this by hitting reply before I write anything, and then editing the empty post.

Stupid Firefox. Doesn't do it in Chrome.
