I am making my first beer with liquid yeast soon, and I want to step it up to 2L using wort as a starter. I am about to bottle a beer that has been racked for a while. Can I use use of this as a starter, or would I better off making one up with DME?

Do you mean you want to re-use the yeast from the batch your about to bottle? Sorry Just a bit confused...

If this is the first liquid yeast you are going to use, then you will need to make a fresh wort (1020 - 1040) and pitch the vial/pack into this and get it going.

Can you please varify exactly what you are trying to do?
Ie, White Labs or Wyeast. Fresh pack or re-culture?

Sloth.

The finished beer does not have any sugars available for the yeast to eat. This is why the beer is finished and you can bottle it as the sugar has been changed to alcohol. :chug:

Make up a starter with malt extract, 200g of extract in 2l will get you a wort of about 1040. If you haven't already, read Batz's excellent thread on starters, here.

Stuster,Thanks, I will get a malt extract wort going.

Sloth, yes I meant creating a starter for a Wyeast liquid pack.
