Oh my head...

I was out with friends at the Mana Bar in the Valley last night exorcizing my inner geek when I noticed that they had changed the beer on their one and only tap. There she was

...and her name was Millennium Falcon.

With a ABV of 10% and 100 IBUs I was scared, after-all how could something so ridiculous work? So I manned up and ordered a Schooner, watched that liquid gold flow from the tap into my glass and lifted it to my lips.

The first thing I felt was that full golden body slide over my tongue. It was rich and thick with a mild alcohol tang on the end of it. That tang didn't get much time to make an impression though as both it and my tastebuds were ambushed by the huge hoppy taste.

My eyebrows shot up and my mind raced as I tried to work out the complex flavour that was threatening to obliterate one of my favorite senses. There were strong floral and citrus notes, a strong after presence of resin and even some spice. You might suspect that 100 IBUs would mean you couldn't taste a damn thing (I sure did) but this had a massive flavour and it was one I fast coming to love.

I don't know what else I can say about it, I was already a few drinks into the evening thanks to dinner with friends, so I wasn't at my sharpest but that Schooner was followed by a few friends of the same breed. Needless to say that soon it all got happily blurry. I should have known better, it should come with a public warning, maybe 'Explosive - handle with care.'

Anyone else had a chance to try this wicked beauty?

Yep had one at their launch of it in Fitzroy a month or so ago. Think it was only a 30l keg so it went quick. Could only have one as I had to drive. Tis a fair assault on the senses, but definitely would go straight for it again if I see it on tap. It's classic Holgate though. All of his beers have a similar signature

That is very well written.....you don't by any chance write porn, do you?

I stayed at the brewery pub a few weeks back. I ended the arvo / evening sesh with a Falcon, took my bag up to my room and woke up at 2am still clothed. Great beer, even better that they have rooms.

'Write' it? Surely that would take precious time away from 'watching' it!

...but that drink did deserve a little poetry. I was mentally comparing it to the very hot but bats**t crazy girl you go out with despite knowing better. You wake up in the morning finding that she has punched you in the face in her sleep and taken off with all the money in your wallet.

Actually I think the Millennium Falcon did that to me too...

Yep, tried it when it was released last year. There are a few threads on here about it - one has a photo of Ross from Craftbrewer at the launch dressed as Princess Leia

Found it here

I prefer their Road Trip IPA

Me too but haven't been able to find a recipe for something similar.

Actually I'm pretty sure it was the road trip which set me up for the knockout punch.

There's a fair bit of info on the road trip out there mate. Paul did a master class on it recently at the archive were he gave out recipes. I don't know how exact it really was but it goes close.

I called in there the other day very disappointing that the beer from the hand pump was cold, not cellar temperature.
