I ended up going with Bitdefender Internet Security 2013, it scored very high in reviews and has some very good features like having it's own web browser for financial transactions and being able to boot the PC into a linux type operating system if things go to **** without the need for a CD. It cost $75 but you get 5yrs of updates for that.

cheers

We used to have Sophie at work in a real company once. That thing checked for updates every hour!!! They wouldn't sell to individuals though :(

I stole it once and never had a problem. Lost it along the track.... Have mcafee enterprise someshit that doesn't need any license upgrade that I took off uni when they employed me. Haven't had had an infection I know of yet. Although, my Internet browsing tends to be fairly tame. Malware bytes free and combo fix are on hand to deal with the pesky once a year malware intrusion.
I think the best thing I do is to click "NO" when something says it wants to run an executable or install a toolbar or a search engine or whatever I did not explicitly ask for. Most times I help friends or family stuck with a virus it's because they don't pay attention to what they do.

PS: I e found that malware and viruses tend to attack the windows 'fancy' features like the gadgets etc. take em off and life is good. Try not to install porn wallpapers. They come packaged with viruses.

Are you sure you get 5 years of updates for $75 seems really cheap.

Hi Bradley,
I went back to try and find the page where I purchased it but could not find it, the emails I received with the activation code and payment details are from a company called avangate, they seem to be a legitimate agent for Bitdefender. Never the less, you got me worried enough to email Bitdefender with the details regarding the purchase to make sure it's legit.

ahh here is the link http://www.bitdefender.com/media/html/lifetime2013/?od_id=100423, I found the link on a PC mag review. make it $80

If you want a shorter term for Bitdefender google "bitdefender 75%", otherwise if you plan on keeping your current pc for many years thats a pretty decent deal.
