Our "HomeBrewers" team easily beat the "Bud Light USA 2005" team, and I predict that we will catch up to the "MillerTime" team by the end of January '06. Thank you to all homebrewers who joined our international "HomeBrewers" grid-computing team; all homebrewers are welcome to join. We are doing something nice and benevolent for the whole world, and we made it into the top 25% of all teams in our first month. I have even had a couple of inquiries from people on other teams who are considering trying to brew their own beer, so maybe our craft will derive benefits as well. For more info, please visit http://tinyurl.com/b7ofs -- and what better time of year is there to do something nice for the world?

Thanks and "MERRY CHRISTMAS" to all!

Yeah, what Bill said.

It only takes a couple of minutes to join up and get the thing running - even i could manage it!

With all the members on this forum, I thought that there would have been more people joinup to this.
Spend a few minutes on the worldcommunitygrid.org website, and find out what this is all about, then join up and help the homebrewers team!
Linux or Windows, latest PC or something not quite so flash - you don't have to be connected to the net constantly for this to run, and it only uses the spare computing power of your machine...

Have a look and help out!

Yep, I did it. Initially oin the old PC that monitors the temperature of the fridge (Linux) and then on my main XP machine as a cool scrennsaver.

The way I see it is, if it's sittlng wasting power, you might as well put it towards something useful.

Linux monitoring fridge temp??

Can you give me some idea of how you did that, as my Linux machine will eb down near the brewery shortly...

I am using a kit number K145 from ozitronics.com. I ordered it from Melbourne. The software can be found at http://www.kitsrus.com/soft.html#k145

This kit only records temperature, does not control it. There is a Jaycar wine cooler kit that I think does this. I just use a primitive timer for the time being.

I obtained most of the info from a bloke called Greg (thanks Greg) which can be found here: http://www.lemis.com/grog/brewing/

If your Linux PC is connected to the internet, you can download the BOINC client and sign up for the world community grid. I must admit it wasn't as easy as the Windows PC, but I managed to get it working eventually. Let me know if you need a hand.
