Looks good Andrew but i have some suggestions...

Do some mash tun hopping with 45 gms of POR in the mash tun.
Then add 20 gms of POR for first wort hopping - forget the 45gms for the 60min boil and then following the rest of the hop schedule except for...the Saaz for the final minute - IMHO that is a waste of time.

Rack after 10 days into the secondary and dry hop with 25 gms of Saaz for 2- 6 weeks cold conditioning.

45IBU of POR will give a very harsh bittering indeed. Try not exceeding 20IBU with POR, use Goldings to add the rest of the bittering.

can you up your OG to 1070? (or even 1080?) for more traditional IPA

Saaz will give some aroma, the Poms used to use Bavarian hops sometimes in their IPAs, mebbe substitute Hallertau for the Saaz

Again, apart from the the POR, my other recommendations are solely suggestions to make your IPA more traditional.

I agree with JM (there's a first ;) ) POR is only good up to 25IBU IMO, I brewed an Aussie ale at 30-35 IBU using POR and it was very harsh bitterness. Even after a year in the bottle the harshness is there, I tone it down with a splash of Bickfords lime cordial  Nice on a hot summers day.

Thanks for the replies guys,

JM, I will up the malt to 1070, haven't got goldings but have fuggles so hope this will do.

GMK, will go with the mash hopping for the P.O.R as I have done this before and it does smooth out the bitterness, beersmith will help with the calcs.

TDA, I have an aussie ale on tap now with 30 IBU,s of POR, believe it or not this is the only beer I brew that my wife will drink, I don't mind it but it is a little coarse.
Thanks for the help guys.
Regards
Andrew

I don't mean to be rude, but with POR and Saaz, I think "IPA" is a misnomer. If you're going to all the trouble in the grain bill, why not buy some traditional IPA hops? Anyway, what is your modified recipe looking like now?

So here is the new recipe.
Your not rude PM, Ive got Fuggles for authenticity, POR for bitterness. If this was brewed using only goldings or fuggles with there low aau's I would have 1/2 boiler of hops pellets which would be a bit hard to strain. The por are leaf hops which will help the flow.
Thanks all
Andrew
