For a while this was all you could get to crush grain. It rips it apart though and doesn't get that great a crush that you'd get from a proper crusher like the Barley Crusher or Crankandstein. I'm looking at getting a Crankandstein CNS-2S which is about $150, then you just have to build a base/hopper for it.

I'm not sure of the exact model but you should be able to adjust the crush gap on these Corona mills?

Thanks buddy.

And DJR let me know when ur looking @ getting one and I may take the plunge with ya.

It looks like you are continuing your move over to the dark side DC
The spelling of the mill on ebay is wrong (Porkert) try a quick search for Porkett mills and you will find a plethora of info from owners who use them for grain. They have a reputation of tearing/ shredding the grains instead of cracking them with a fair bit of flour produced. It's pretty expensive for a potential compromise in grain processing quality. Well that's my 2 bob's worth anyway :)
Cheers

At the moment Stuster has kindly let me drop around to his house to crush grain there on his barley crusher. He just stands back and laughs at me trying to crush wheat malt using the hand crank with the unit on the ground!

Not really something that you'd want to do very often (although the beers there are very good) ! If i get one don't worry about going halves, better to have my own one, and if you want you can come around and i can do the same thing Stuster does!

I meant my own, certainly not keen to travel an hour just to crush some grain lol. - Just wanted to see were you were getting urs and what kind of deal u'll get.

DJR.

Is that $150Aus delivered to your door? Where are you looking at getting it from?

I've been looking at mills two but really only looked into the Barley Crusher. Will end up at about $230 delivered airmail from the States.

if a bulk buy could get the price down i am sure we could get the numbers to make it possible.

Ray @TWOC - $150 + postage for the CNS-2S (no stock till end of the month though). He has the Barley Crushers for $225 + postage too, which is about the same price as getting it from the US but you'll get it tomorrow (well, monday) if you order it express post.

Probably, if you got 5 or something of the CGM-2S models airmailed over from the US you might be looking at a cheap price.

These bulk buys from the US seem to work pretty well too at the moment, in Sydney at least anyway :)

I have one of these mills seems to work ok i get good clear extract and efficiency :D

The crankandstein 2a mill is great. I see that they have come down in price  .
A few got em before Ray in W.A. became the sole agent in OZ.
I don't know if Fred will ship them anymore direct.

If someone is thinking about organising a group buy count me in... the cheaper the better ;)

I use one of these (the Porkett not the Crankenstein) - I'm a fairly new AG brewer - about 10 batches so I've crushed about 50-55 kg of grain with it. No flavour problems with the beer but it always seems to be slightly cloudy. Maybe it's because the grain isn't crushed properly.

I would be in for a bulk buy as well

Bags not ordering the bulk this time, but here you go for the calculations if somebody wants to pick this one up.

If you can manage to get Fred at Crankandstein to ship to us, and people don't mind waiting 6 weeks possible for surface mail, then it might be a goer. Order 5 and it's quite cheap.

Each mill weighs about 8 pounds. 5 of them is 40 pounds. 40 pounds shipped from US to Australia via surface is $70.70US.

Each CGM-2A (Adjustable 2 roller model - pretty much the best value) costs $99 US.

So for 5 the total cost would be $495 + $70.70 = $565.70US

Divided by 5 = $113.14US each, or at today's exch rate of 0.751 comes to about $150 each. That's how much the entry model (CGM-2S) that isn't as easily adjustable costs to buy locally - and you are getting the one that is worth another $30US for the same price.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

I contacted fred at crankanstein a couple of months ago about getting a cgm 2s sent over and was given a postage quote of about us$50.00 and 4 to 6 weeks shipping time, he may not be interested in undercutting the aussie distributor.
