Here is the anatomy of my mill

The rollers are 50mm x 200mm solid knurled stainless

The frame is made from hardwood

Bearings are 40mm/17mm x 12mm

The 2nd roller is free wheeling

The gap adjusters are stainless bolts qith a threaded plate and locking nut

The bearing holes where cut out with a hole saw and the adjuster slot done with a router and drill

About the same as I did except my end plates are made from angle iron. Same bearing mount and adjusting type system. Works great.

I didnt make mine. Its known as the "Tony Mill"

Only a few where made, so no, you cant order one.

how does the "gap" adjust ?

is the adjustable side bearing hole a little oval or something allowing it to be forced out under use?

Yes the hole is slightly oval.

The adjusting bolt pushes directly against the bearing outer shell.

The gap is currently 0.9mm, which I have found perfect for the roller size and speed.

The only disadvantage with a lazy roller is you need to push a few grains between the rollers to get the second one rolling before you load the hopper. Once its rolling its fine.

I did try a few methods like O-rings etc to drive the 2nd roller but they only ended in swear words.

Gear drive is a lot more complex, and if you can put up with sticking a few grains between the rollers at the start, then the extra cost isnt worth the extea machining and f&%#g about.

Few more pics.

Bearings are std 6203-2RSM. Available at any bearing shop

Normal coach bolts hold it together

Jeezus.....all the pencil marks Tony set out are still visible

After all those years the mill is still on spec.

Mill stand is now built. Just need to buy a door hinge to mount the motor on the back
