BG,

I thought the local Bribie Home Brew shop had Muntons cans, have you
checked them out?

cheers
Dave

There used to be a "Bribie Brew and Bits" shop next to the Bike shop - but AFAIK it was converted to a ceramic pots store and nursery and the forecourt fenced off with 6ft fences to stop people from flogging the pots and garden gnomes! Never took too much notice as I was not brewing until recently and had no reason to go into the place (not into gnomes :D . ) I'll check it out - if it's still going Big Burper yours could be my most valuable post to date on the forum!! I'll post tomorrow morning one way or the other.

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on that one. This could be the death of me :icon_drunk:

BG, I think Les at Caloundra Home Brew Supplies (07) 5492 8499 has Muntons, about 35 min from you from memory, give him a ring first. Have you tried Brewers World at Caboolture (07) 5499 0311

Screwy

Thanks, I'll pop into Brewers World tomorrow on the way to Burpengary (and check out Bribie as well). Problem with Caloundra is that I always end up in the RSL there and the Mrs has to become the 'nominated driver' to get me home   However if I'm up that way I'll certainly duck in. I'm actually quite surprised that a Pom outfit obviously has achieved a high penetration of the market here; before I got back into brewing, based on experience from 20 years ago I had assumed that Coopers etc had flooded the market and that UK and overseas kits would be a very scarce item. Obviously I was mistaken - I also see that Brigalow (originally at Beenleigh) are still around. In the late 70s they were THE supplier in QLD although by today's standards the kits of that era were a bit crappy. Can still taste them now <_< Anyone remember the Brigalow TV ad from around 1980 where the dizzy blonde took the guy home and gave him a HB, ... jeez did you make that yourself? "OATH, MATE !!!!". Days of glory, hey :p

Excellent little HB supplier right here on Bribie and I didn't know it was still going, right under my nose! Well stocked and specialising more in Beer than distilling. They have some Muntons Irish Stout but I would have to order other varieties of Muntons specially... I'll certainly be using the shop for all my general needs however, and get Muntons and any specialty malts whatever freighted up from Chermside. Sweet.

While I was in there I bought a Morgans (Brisbane company but I guess sold nationwide??) Australian Pilsener, 1.5kg of Coopers liquid light malt extract and a packet of Saaz finishing hops (teabag). So that will keep me busy until I can get a couple of Muntons freighted.

Thanks for the advice and tips.

Cheers.

BG,

Glad you found it alive and well. I get a nice drop using Morgans Queensland
Bitter, 200g LDME, 600g dex and a teabag of Cluster hops.

I swear it tastes like Stella Artois, but without the lagering malarkey.

cheers
Dave

Cheers BB - As I mentioned in another thread I have just moved (today) from Bongaree to Bellara and now have a dedicated single lock up garage for my own brew den :) . Intention was to get a couple of extra fermenters and get some interesting brews on the go during the cooler months. Last night due to moving I couldn't cook (I am the chef of the family) so we went to the Bribie Pub for dinner (not recommended at the moment - new cook there <_< )

Retired to the games area and a 'Major Money' pokie coughed up 10 free games, Major Jackpot, 10 more free games awarded during the games (if your'e familiar with pokies), Mini Jackpot etc etc and walked out with $250. Compensated for the crap meal but guess who's going to do some spendies tomorrow

So I'll follow your suggestion for the Morgans Brew as I love Stella type brews. Edit: Pam at the shop says she sells more Cluster hops than the rest put together.

When I've got a couple of drinkables ready we'll have to have a cleansing ale or two.

Anyway I've well and truly hijacked this thread which I realise is against forum etiquette so I'll shut up now :icon_cheers:

Cheers Michael

Apparently cluster is used in XXXX. I know that in my area at least there are a lot of brewers who would only be trying to emulate XXXX or XXXX gold. This could explain the high sales of this hop.

While you can make good beer with Coopers kits, you can make great beer with Munton's kits. They proudly write on their labels that the kits contain NO barley sugars.

Umm anyone else see something wrong here??

hi, yes muntons is a great kit beer, price has increased though.
all malt kits. barley syrup added in kits is seen by some to produce a lower grade kit.

cheers

Probably seen as lower grade by those who drink Lemonade (No barley syrup in there!!!)

Too Funny!!!
