Got home after ordering 2 packets of 1084 Irish Ale Yeast that the wife put in the freezer for 3 days so rock hard..... Are they dead .. am I stuffed ? Anybody done this before

I once tried to keep a couple of half packs of Wyeast by adding an equal quantity of sterile glycerol to each and freezing. Thawed and pitched a month or so later, the ferments were so sluggish I went out and bought new packs.

Glycerol is a cryoprotectant so I am going to predict that your results with no glycerol will be even worse.

I have used frozen wyeast packs, thawed then enhanced with starters, no worries. Not ideal but you can sort it out.

thanks guys I think I might relegate them to be used to kick off in a sour beer (I like to kick start with an ale yeast) that way no harm no foul
