Hey all,

My 50l keggle has a socket welded in it for one of the old kegking 2200w elements.
The silicon washer for it has degraded and the element slowly drips from the socket.

Is there a recommend product to use that is a food safe thread sealer?
I've read a few forums on here regarding aquarium silicon etc. Just wasn't sure if it would work as a thread sealer.

Would i be best with a loctite type product? Or source a new silicon washer and hope that fixes it?

Any idea where i could get the silicon washer. Needs to be fairly thick, more that silicon bakeware.

Any ideas would be great.

I know Keg King have got some for sale and they are reasonably priced.
I have purchased silicone muffin bakeware and cut my own. Doesn't look as good but does the trick.
There was another thread elsewhere which suggested that some sealants can react with the wort and the sealant then causes off flavours. For that reason I would stick to a Silicone washer.

Nonneed to troll a straightforward thread.

OP, if you luck out I'd have a rummage and might fibd that old o-ring from yonks ago. Slim chances though.

A few drops of 5min araldite on the threads will seal it better than any loctite and shouldn't react with the wort or temperatures once set. If your wanting a less permanent solution find a local place that makes gaskets (there's a great place in Salisbury, Brisbane) and they'll be able to knock you out some for a few bucks from some off cuts they might have.

Loctite 577 is supposedly safe for potable water and high temps.
I replaced my KK washer with a 20mm HD silicone o ring I had from Craftbrewer. Had to stretch it a bit to get it on but it gives a much better seal.

Awesome,

Thanks for the help guys. I actually found the proper washers from keg king, so i got a few so i can put two on.

Thanks again!
