G'day! I've got a recipe for an amber ale that calls for Mt. Hood Hops at 7.0% to be dropped in at 30mins of a 60 minutes boil. The Mt. Hood hops I have are 5.2. Now, based on the fact that these hops are for flavouring, I won't need to use more to compensate for the lower AA, will I??? Thanks!

Cheers
Dave

You will still get some bittering from 30 mins. If it's just for flavour you could add them later. I'd be inclined not to worry at this point, particularly if there's some bittering already available (kit? earlier additions?).

Yeah, there's a 15g addition of 9.6 centennial supposed to be at boil, 60 minutes, but I am going to draw the boil out another 30 minutes and make it a full wort boil.

Sounds like you are sortin it anyway...

Sorry, what do you wanna know?

Will different AA HOPS Flavour differently? Yeah?

Wanted to know if the IBU is of any importance on the second hop addition (flavouring) at 30 minutes left of a 90min full boil. Thanks

Yeah, I think I'll bump it up to 35gm from 28. Thanks to both of you. Dave

Short answer is yes. BUT!!

You will pick up SOME bittering from any addition down to about 15 minutes, minimal yes but still... not a lot so the 'flavour addition at 20 will be just that flavour!!

Unless you are brewing up with all chinook or something I wouldn't stress it!
