Hey

Ok I know its very early days, I only bottled the beer about 11 days ago so of course it won't be at its best in flavour etc.

The bit I'm a bit worried about is the beer its pretty flat. I used 2 carbonation drops per 740ml PET bottle. There was some stuff which was stuck at the bottom of the bottle, not sure if thats the carbonation drop laying dormant??

Now the part I didn't know untill recently is that the beer must be stored in room temp e.g 18 degress so that carbonation process can take affect.

For the past 11 days after bottling my beer it has been in the garage and here in Tassie we have had a cold snap so the bottles would be stored in approx 8 degrees temp for the past 11 days or so.

Is there anyway to get the beer carbonated again?

Do I give each bottle a shake and store it in room temp for the next 2 weeks? Or is there somthing else I need to do?

What is the general rule of thumb for keeping your beer in room temp after bottling untill you can store them in cooler temps to last longer?

Any Help would be great.

You've pretty well answered your own questions....

Bring into the warm for a couple of weeks & all should be good.

cheers Ross

yep bring above 18c for at least a few weeks or until you think the carbonations right. the layer on the bottom is dormant yeast as when they go to sleep they drop to the bottom. bring upto 18c or more and then tip up and down a few times to get the yeast in suspension dont shake like a milk drink lol

Mate, i asked the same question a few months ago.
Brought half the bottles inside for a couple of weeks...good beer.
left the other half outside in the shed for a couple of months......good beer.

give em time

good luck

Cheers guys, I appreciate the swift help!!!!!!!!!!!

yes but if its a ale yeast they will not ferment at 8c some kit yeast have a mix of ale and lager so they may work but still 8c is getting low for lager to. If a yeast gets to cold they go dormant and just drop to the bottom. I am not sure of there tolerance on cold weather but I assume they wont die at 8c as you store yeast in a fridge at 4c, But I know they dont like to be frozen so not sure the temp they start to get effected. Anything over about 35c I know will start to kill them off. Id bring them inside. try not to get them to hot or expose them to uv light but if you got a room you keep warm throw them in there.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I just brought them up inside. I will keep them warm for the next few weeks and give them another go then hopefully :icon_cheers:
