Hello, hello,

Happy to find an Aussie brewing community online!

Hope everyone's having a pleasurable Australia Day weekend.

I've just finished constructing a mash tun complete with ball-valve, false bottom and electric element and am yet to christen it with an all-grain brew.

I'm very much a dark ale/stout drinker and have already knocked up a couple of recipes for complex RIS, but have started to think that perhaps I should start off with something a bit simpler...

Here's my recipe for a Dark Rye Ale, please, do let me know if you think I'm on the right track or if there're any glaring errors in its construction:

Grain:
- JW Traditional Ale, 4.5 kg
- BM Rye malt, 1 kg
- JW Dark crystal, 0.4 kg
- JW Light Munich, 0.4 kg
- JW Roast barley, 0.1 kg

Hops:
Bittering:
- Fuggles, 40 g, at 60 min.
- Fuggles, 40 g, at 10 min.

Mash:
- 70 min. at 64 degrees (20 L strike water)
- Mash-out and sparge with 15 L at 73 degrees (batch sparge)

Boil:
- 60 min. until volume approx. 21 L

Yeast:
- Cooper's Ale Yeast

Cheers!

looks the pants to me tho not sure how the late fuggles will play with the Rye? might be a match made in heaven

Cheers, mate.
I suppose that is the question. I admit, this is completely uncharted territory for me, matching bittering hops to a good smack of rye. I figured fuggles because it's gentler, but yes, perhaps a late addition might be over-shadowing...
