Hi All,

I live in country WA and we haven't had a day under 38 for a while and that doesn't look like changing. It is a nice 44 today so it's not the best brewing weather..

I have one of those beer can fridges (they usually look like a giant beer can or have footy team logos on them - see below). I haven't tried it yet, but I think my fermenter will fit snuggly in there, but without the lid on.

Has anyone else tried this? I am thinking of getting a timer to get it to come on every now and again...

Any thoughts on this??

Cheers

Hey Dacky,

I think any temp control is better than none! Timers work ok too, it's a bit of a dark art - but it's cheap and painless. My only question - does that fridge have a real condensing unit or is it a 'Peltier' (unsure of correct speeling) type? If it's a Peltier, it'll be really inefficient to run, and expensive.

I'd give it a shot. Nothing to lose, all to gain.

Cheers - Mike

I think it has a real fridge unit in there because it can freeze when turned right up.

What sort of time should I put on the timer?

Real fridge - fits a fermenter with lid on OK, but not an airlock in. I use gladwrap so no issue. Works fine controlled with a tempmate. A timer would do OK but you'd need your ambient to be pretty constant.

Depending on whether your fermenters are tall and thin or short and fat, you might not fit them in there with a standard tap attached.
