Don't know which would be better.
I use some heavy duty buckets for the base grain, but have just been ziplock bagging the spec malt and putting it all in one bucket.

For me this will be neater as I can keep the big base grain buckets under the bench and stack these neatly on top.

Easy access I think is the benefit, plus it'll just look neater and that will make me happier and there's the added bonus of being able to see the grain levels before o hit up the homebrew store (an hours drive away).
 
OMG!! $1000 would be a steal. You could sell what you didn't want and get a fair whack of the purchase price back.
 
**** if I was getting into it from scratch, I'd almost drive from Melbourne for that price.
