I've just been to the local taphouse, Darlinghurst, and bought a bottle of Deus. I have a recipe for it in a BYO magazine so I wanted to try it as i've never seen it before. I was wonderng if anyone has tried to make this and if so how did it turn out?

The local is like a toy store, candy store, you want to try all the different styles you were thinking of brewing. There are a more styles that I'm keen to try before I brew.

That site is a great source for how to carry out Riddling and Disgorgement. When I make this DeuS clone I wont be Riddling and Disgorging as it's a bit much for now, maybe when I'm retired and that's many years away.

I'll post the DeuS clone recipe from my BYO magazine into the Recipe database. :icon_cheers:

I had the DeuS recently also. We managed to pick it up for $40, but alas I did not enjoy it very much. Hopefully in 10 years or so, when I give it another crack, it will be better...

Good luck with the clone! Would be a tough one, that's for sure.

I bought a bottle of this from the bbc a while ago and consumed it recently, it wasn't to my tastes.. I would rather spend the 60 bucks on a range of different beers from platinum liquor..

Have to agree with you there Rets.
Didn't fork out that much ($50 from the bottleo), but yeah as nice as flavours and textures of this beer are, it's very sweet and you could easily get a good half dozen beers of the same strength and quality for the same price. Also sounds like a serious pain in the ass to brew, but i respect the trouble they've gone to.

I enjoyed it actually, which makes the benifits of making something similar using the clone recipe I posted pretty appealing, so for a bit more than the cost of a bottle, you could make 19L, now that's a pretty big savings.

One thing about the recipe would be getting a hold of the Wyeast used. I can't seem to find it in the usual online major HBS. I think I'll just a substitute which will obviously alter the flavour profile but the overall character of the style should remain and who knows, it may turn out more appealing by chance.

In the recipe database you put Wyeast 1388. That's a pretty commonly available yeast and I'm sure you can get hold of it somewhere. Which HBS were you looking in?

Sorry I was clear. The database didn't have Wyeast 3021 or 3347 so I had to add it to the instructions.
They are the yeast I'm unable to find.

No idea about either of those yeasts, but from a quick google it seems that the 3347 is called Eau de Vie. Ross does have 4347 Eau de Vie so maybe somewhere along the line there's been a number change for that yeast. :icon_cheers:

At Absolute Home Brew in St Marys, they will order in any Wyeast you want. You need to place your order by a certain day each month and it will come in a couple of weeks after that.

Thanks, just found them myself too. I'm moving in 6 months so will plan this brew after my move as I'm not sure if the removalist's will move homebrew bottles.

Does anyone know if removalists do ship homebrew bottles?

Super old thread did any of you eventually do the brew and how did it go? Was considering giving it a go.
