Sooooo, what will LN do with Boags I wonder........

Wes

cure them of their POR usage?? i hope so.

the MSB stuff was brewed but that ceased due to time and size - also due to the different sized bottles and label type, the time taken in the packing plants took to long, thus it was ceased.

Their main cripe was the fact it was not a session beer and thus brewing in bulk was not justified.

In regards to Boags, going down there in about 2 weeks for an inspection, the word at the moment is nothing will change as per LN's previous history.

Off Topic: LN/Toohey's have a bunch on new s/s 120000 litre conical's setup at lidcombe - talk about brewing bling. They are amazing but the problem is you actually start to think if I moved the shed a bit to the left, I should be able to fit one in the backyard...........

Watched a full brew yesterday, watching the grain come in on a dump truck was pretty amazing and putting about 100kgs of aroma hop into the whirlpool was pretty kewl B)

I can never get enough of the smell of the brewery.

Times are a changing...the consumer(or at least a greater percentage) is waking up to the BS that marketing is, i.e. Just because Boony drinks crap, does't mean I have to or want to...or just because I can get a plastic toy with my beer(mind you the lacing of amphetamines does make it more appealing...for those whom have just gone "huh??", the toy is from China!!)...
Oh and let's not mention putting a great big set of TITS in the Ad

I'm sad to say I don't think that's true. Or at least, they are changing but jo schmoe is not waking up.
It always boggles my brain to think that people drink "blonde" beer.
Its filtered, pastuerised and brewed with enzymes so its low carb. Has just enough hops to make it a tad bitter and
the hops it does have are iso hops! They shouldn't be allowed to call it beer!

Imagine if people got grape juice, added a dash of ethanol, a touch of tannin and some acid and called it wine!

It all makes me thinks that most Australians don't like beer!

they don't Samantha, they like icy cold alcoholic soda water.

Dood, you're kind of way wrong. JS AA and GA are far too big to be handled at MSB. I bloody well worked there for five years and saw AA, Pils and GA go; AA and Pils to Lidcombe and GA to SAB. Scotty's right, Pils came back because volumes tanked when it went to the yeast strain they use in New. I think Kirin has gone from MSB now too. Oh, and bottle? MSB bottle was designed with the same height and diameter as a New bottle so that the beers could go to Lidcombe (or anywhere else). Don't believe me? Check the date code: only those ending in '15' are brewed and packed at MSB. 1= Aust, 5= MSB, no third no. as there is only one packaging line at MSB. AA will have a date code that ends something like '143'. Aust, Tooheys, pack line ab3.

OK, stopped in at the Bottle-O on the way home to check out date codes (I got a few strange looks)

JSAA - Tooheys
JS Pils - Tooheys. Old stock, I know that the beer is now back at the Shovel
JS IPA - MSB
JS Porter - MSB
JS GA - Tooheys
Kirin - Not sure, they didn't have any stock.

That's pack of course, beer for kegs may be brewed and racked elsewhere.

Interestingly, the HP, HPL, xxxx Gold and New there were all brewed at Swan.... And the Swan Stout at Tooheys. Go figure.

In that thread that beers linked on the end of page 1, Gerard talks of the Pilsner moving to Lidcombe in 2005. He was MSB's packaging line manager or something until this year wasn't he?

The post was in 2005, the Pils moved in early 2003. I was still working some production line shifts at MSB then, but was merely in charge of making sure the crown seals were in the hopper! I would be interested to see how the Pils shapes up after it's return. Maybe someone should take a trip to MSB on the first Monday in Feb, around 5pm for one of their tours!

Oh my first post as a Non-retailer! Sorry to go off topic there, no affiliation with anybody until Feb 4th as I am unemployed :D

Cheers
Gerard

Well I nearly got a 6 pack of the Coopers Premium Lager but alas I went for Bitburger - Couldn't pass on a free glass :D

Also got 2 longys of Coopers Sparkling ;)

Thanks for the education dig, it's nice to learn about these kinds of things
Cheers

interesting stuff,

Talked to one of the heads yesterday at Lion Nathan (toohey's brewery) who advised that no MSB is done at lidcombe any more - his role is to oversea all output from the brewery and decide what gets brewed next, so i would assume that he would know what is being brewed? Also I do not think he would lie as he is my old man?

I am sure many of us are close in contact with many brewers at various breweries and levels of management of breweries - I am not sure what it may do with this thread (a highjack perhaps) and so may we propose a return to normal programming...

zzzzttt zzzzttttt are you there Brian...

Scotty

WWWH's comment is interesting because it conflicts with dig's bottle shop research that revealed amber ale and golden ale stubbies are brewed at Tooheys.

WWWH provides a reference. So does dig. What's the truth?

Oh, and may I also add that I had the MSB head brewer, my former boss, around here for beers a couple of weeks ago. Not that that means anything because date code=traceability=that's that.

Sorry about the thread drift/hijack thing.

Phil Sexton was on the radio the morning after CUB announced that they were to cease brewing Matilda Bay beers at the Matilda Bay brewery. He implored beer drinkers to "ask from where your beer comes". Date codes are tool by which you can find out and would encourage you all to snoop around a bit in your local bottle-o. Interesting stuff.

I hope Freshie is keeping well.

Maybe it means that production is per demand and popularity?

I really don't know what they do there these days. The point I tried to make, badly, is that not all MSB beers are brewed at MSB. It just couldn't be done.

Yes. sorry about the hijack - However, just spoke to the old man - MSB uses 3rd parties for their production and bottling during peak seasons as Lidcombe will not do it - what I am saying is they may not be brewed at the MSB site, but they are not brewed at lidcombe.

Anyway - back on topic,

I hate coopers beer  but I did have a 2007 vintage ale last night and it was pretty good :)

Thanks for that info dig.
