Got a question for anyone who has done this kit.
Do yo think I need a starter? I bought a pack of saflager 34 that I was gonna try with this kit. i was just planning to add some DME and some saaz.
should i:
a) just do it and throw in saflager
B) make a starter tonight and add that and to the kit in the fermenter tomorow
c) throw in the pack of saflager AND the pack of yeast that comes with the kit.

and suggestions appreciated.

w34/70 should be fermented at arouned 10 degrees, so i presume you have temperature control

i like to make a 3 odd litre starter, ferment for a few days at room temp then chill slowly to 10 degrees

tip out top of starter and pitch into wort, both wort and starter at 10 degrees

or

pitch dry yeast straight into wort and then slowly chill to 10 degrees as fermentation begins

if you pitch dry and drop temp, you will benefit from a dicetyl rest

i have better results cold pitching a large starter

I have made more Mex/corona clones than i care to think about,(get shit hung on me for saying that !) If your trying for something close to Corona keep your fermenting temp around 12 deg with the Saflager and ditch the Sazz hops for Galena, about 30 grms finishing hops.( true hop used in Corona) Also only fill to 19/20 ltrs. I wouldnt bother with the starter.

Good Luck :)

1 packet of w34/70 dry yeast wont be enough for a 23L batch
as already said, chill your yeast and wort to 10C and then pitch 2 packets... OR at a pinch, pitch 1 packet at 20C and chill down to 10C

try galena or cascade hops...

Thanks for your help guys.
I re-hydrated the yeast, did the work and pitched under 20 - will bring down slowly to 12 degrees.
1st kit and dry yeast I have done for a while!
I used:
0.4kg LDME
0.7kg Dextrose
10gm super alpha (bittering)
10gm Riwaka (aroma)

I realise my hop additions are not true to the style, but my aim here is not to make a exact copy, otherwise i would have just gone to the shop and bought it for my girlfriend.
