Unfortunately my conversion util only does it from a text export from Promash to BeerXML (BeerSmith), as taking it from the source .rec Promash files opened up a whole can of worms when a guy on Brewboard did it.

Hi Doc,

You cant convert from the txt files I posted??

Wes

Try this - you wont believe the hassles in getting Promash to behave under Vista....

or anything else with less than 2gB of RAM if what I hear is half right!!

K

Vista is not the problem. Try very old code cut for Win95 style op systems. Promash needs a rewrite but not sure if Mr Donavan will do so. And dont believe what you read about Vista - runs VERY happily on 1gb. Is the best op system I have ever used and I have used them all right from the beginning of DOS. We have 4 Vista systems currently running between home and office and would never go back to the "old" XP.

Ah, yes I would have been able to.
I only read the first line though

As for Promash needing an update, The Brewing Network have been indicating they have the authors of Promash and BeerSmith lined up for a show this year, so that will be one of the most anticipated answers old school Promash users will be looking for.

Finally I'm running Promash on Vista with no probs.

 :icon_offtopic: I have Vista here, and it's a steaming piece of poo. It won't play nice on a dual boot system. It doesn't like other OSes sharing filesystems. It wants confirmation signed in triplicate three weeks in advance for just about everything you do. It's bloated and slow (which can be said for every new release of windows). In the 1980's there was a big fuss about computers being "user-friendly". Vista certainly is not and while many could argue that Linux isn't either, at least it does what you tell it. In my opinion, Windows 2000 was (and still would be if it was supported) the best, most stable and co-operative version of Windows. Every subsequent version has made it prettier, slower and harder to use. I'd still be using 2000 if they'd kept up the patches and driver support for more recent hardware.

Actually, Vista introduces a new problem because ProMash defaults to storing its data files in "Program Files". Vista does a freaky shadow thing which redirects those files to a hidden directory within your user directory. Finding it is a bitch if you're not expecting it. ProMash says the files are there in the program directory; Windows explorer says otherwise.

Just noticed this on the Promash forum. It explains why Promash v2 is delayed.
Wishes go out to Jeff and his wife.

I've thought long and hard about the appropriate answer to this question, and because I like to keep my wife's personal life off of any forum I have since not mentioned much here but I suppose I do owe some folks an explanation of what is happening.

In Oct 2006 my wife was diagnosed with a large, late Stage 4 gleo-blastomic brain tumor with ganglion tendecies (I hope I spelled that all correctly). It is in-operable unless she wants to give up the small things like seeing, walking, things like that. In the course of the last year we have been to several universities and specialists. She started intense radiation and chemo therapy regime's the first of this year and just ended the last chemo treatment (for now) last month. Not asking for any tears, she is very strong and has a great sense of humor and I have every confidence she will get through this....however, thats the story.

Needless to say, my life has been consumed with making sure she gets the best treatment available, deal with all the administrative ******** from insurance companies, hosiptals and universties so she can focus on just getting well. Also trying to maintain the day gig(s) to pay for it all has proved quite a challenge.....even though we pay a small fortune in health insurance, there is still a lot that falls through the cracks of which it is the individuals reposibility for financially.

So, when will ProMash 2.0 be released? I honestly cannot say at this point. Even though the majority of it is finished, it still needs quite a bit of coding to bring it to completion. This is something I most DEFINATELY intend to do. However, I simply cannot at this point in time give a hard date for release as I would be unsure I could hold to any date as life around here is a day to day thing at the present. I have been trying to maintain support for both the users and the retailers to the best of my ability and for the last year that's been about as much as I can do so, hopefully that will be changing soon.

I'm sorry I cannot provide more details on a release date, I hope everyone understands I do still intend to release 2.0, I just cannot promise when right now.

Gidday Bonj. Cant agree with any of your criticisms. Get rid of the dual boot and use Vista as it was intended and you may be surprised. As for the security lockdown - look no further than the hackers that have been trying to pull Bill down to size for years. They couldnt care less about "other OS's" and that is why there are fewer probs with Mac and Linux. Except bugger all professional software will run on them. Other than that we might have to agree to disagree so flamesuits off...!

Sorry about the hijack folks.

No help files though Doc? And I could not get the .txt files to archive to the .txt folder. Had to put them in another folder outside of Promash.

Sorry to hear about Jeffery's problems. Hope his wife has a quick recovery.

Never tried the help files. Always on automatic pilot when using it.
I do keep my recipes in a different directory though (easier for backup), and I configured that in the preferences.

Have been messing around with BeerTools Pro again today (slow day), and that can open the Promash .rec files. Seems to work nicely.

Yeh, I have changed my default directory too. Have got Beersmith up on Vista now so will try the direct conversion util. BTW, there are a few issues with Promash when set for a Micro and you try to enter less than 1HL as the default brew length. I have to switch it back to HB mode to get any sense. Still prefer Promash though for our work. Horses for courses!

This thread seems to have drifted off a little but I got what I wanted in the end.

My local decent bottle shop (Crown of the Hill, Roseville) has Beer World about 200 imports.

I discovered Fullers ESB only last week.
Magnificant drop. I spent most of a day at work trolling the net looking for a receipe and could only find 2 Promash versions.
Hence the request for the conversion.

Thanks to Wessmith and Screwtop for the files. It will be next weekend's activity.

haha... yeah, they'd like that wouldn't they ;) .

I've been using Linux since 1997. I'm not about to dump it so Microsloth can have their way. Every version of Windows introduces something to make our lives difficult.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. -Ghandi

Looks like they're still trying to fight. When will they learn?

Bonj mate, I think you just declared your bias! Good luck with Linux. Over and out.
