Hi All,

I am running out of time and need to get my Christmas beer on the boil asap

Would like to run through a recipe with you guys and see what you think?

I've downloaded beer smith but for the life of me I cant work it out...

So I was thinking..

Coopers Draught 1.5kg (yellow Label)

Coopers Wheat Malt 1.5kg

250g British Crystal 60 - Steeped at 70 degrees for 30 mins

200g LME

30g Wiamea Hop Pellet @ 60min %15.8

30g Motueka Hop Pellet @ 60min %6.8

30g Motueka @30

30g Motueka @Flameout

US-05 Started With 50g Malt

Do you guys think theres enough hops in this or should I add more????

Will it be overly Malty??

Also have Chinook, Galaxy and Riwaka Hops in the freezer ATM

Any help or suggestions with this would be great!

Cheers

Shaun.

what sort of IBU will this be??? Could it be too bitter? Can run the numbers at the moment but thats my initial thought...

I think its about 80 IBU just on the hops plus the IBU on the coopers draught tin. Dont know what it is but assume 20ish so thats a total of approx 100IBU.

I picking its gonna be too bitter.

For an IPA, match the gravity with the IBU.

eg. 1.060 = 60IBU
1.070 = 70IBU

Just done some quick calculations and if I take the 30gram Motueka hop addition out at 60 it will reduce to around 75 ibu's

Worried that the beer will be a bit too sweet with that much malt?

Using the Calculator if I cut the 30g of wiamea dow to 15g I get 49.7IBU..... Sound about Right?

Id aim for 50IBU and if you have the hops available, obtain all your IBU's late because you already have base IBU's from the Kit....

+1, that will get you the aroma and flavour you want also. And don't forget to dry hop!

Thanks heaps for the help stakka and DJ!,

Ended up sorting out the recipe out with the online recipe builder Brewers friend,

So much easier than Beer Smith!

Ended changing the hop additions around so I ended up with 60IBU and a OG of 1.059 Including the kit hops and gravity with a bit messing around.

Hit 1.059 on the mark! with some late hop additions

Sitting at high Krausen now at 18 celcius.

Should be a good beer!

To be honest Stakka I have never dry Hopped! Im just a bit wary that the Fam wont take to that sort of intense hop flavour. I could be wrong.

So I have decieded to split the batch into two different secondarys when fermentation is complete.

Dry Hop one then CC 10 Liters

And

CC and Geltine the other.
