hey guys im new hear so i thought i would post my brews hear in this tread, if its in the wrong place sorry lol.

i bort a bigalows kit at K-mart for $20 very very cheap lol. it was a full starter kit came with every thing but some bottles. lucky for me i drink allot and had plenty of bottles.

it had a bigalows home brand larger in the starter kit so i used that up as practice. it didn't come out very good but it was drinkable. the head only lasted a fue seconds and the task was a bit off. tho i use the finnings powder that came in the kit so it looked nice and clean.

i did my 2nd brew that was a coopers larger, it improve on the head problem i used a brew enhance instead of the dextrose sugar. then i use Cain sugar for then 2nd fermenting.
the beer came out nice the head last for ages the bubbles are nice and consistent and the colur is nice an clear. only thing is that it is a bit bitter to my liking.

so i have to try and tackle this bitter taste any suggestions?

Hi,
good stuff on starting to brew your own beer!

If there is a homebrew shop around where you live, the best thing may be to drop by there and have a look around, ask some questions and ask for advice on what to try next.
The kits there will be a little more expensive than what you get at Woolworths or BigW but will also be a lot better quality, and you will talk with someone who has done it a lot of times, rather than try to ask someone at BigW for help on brewing :)

If you want a brew that is not to bitter, you could try the Coopers Pale Ale kit, these are only 18 IBU (International Bittering Units, a figure telling you how bitter a beer is).
The coopers Lager should not be very bitter either ,maybe try it again and try to keep the fermenter at a steady, low temperature to see if it gets any better.

So best advice would be to try dropping by a homebrew shop, if nothing easily accessible go for either a Coopers Pale ale or possibly a Coopers Canadian Blonde, another not-very-bitter kit,

thanks
Bjorn

I would go with Bjorn's suggestion and try a milder kit such as Coopers or Morgans Canadian Light or Cerveza. I've used Brigalow kits in the past, they have been around since the 1970s and their kits are very mild but don't taste of much really. Because Australian mainstream pub and bottleshop beers such as Carlton and the various Blonde and Dry beers don't have much bitterness then guys starting home brew are often surprised by the perceived bitterness of many home brew kits.

The bitterness comes from the hop content. Just to make sure that this is the thing you find objectionable then - as an experiment - go to a bottle shop and get a stubby of something that is a lot more hopped than main pub beer, for example Little Creatures Pale Ale or one of the German beers such as Oettinger. If you find that too bitter to your taste, then that's the problem. Otherwise that flavour could be something else in the kit beers that doesn't appeal to you.

However for your next brew definitely go a Canadian or a Cerveza.
Welcome to the obsession :icon_cheers:
