Carbonating Whilst Lagering

Hi all

I currently have a Pilsner lagering away at 2 deg C, which has been at that temp for about 1 1/2 weeks.
Will it affect the beer if I carbonate it at 8psi whilst lagering and is there any specific amount of time to get best results from lagering. I don't plan on drinking this beer until Xmas so I figure I may as well slowly carbonate it, if it has no ill affects on the beer.

bjl, I now carb after a week or two at 0 but use the carbing calculator in Beersmith to calc pressure, no probs.
