If that is the case, couldn't you also add a controlling mechanism so the power output can be adjusted, something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/270945091419?ss...984.m1423.l2649 or a PID/SSR with manual control.
the link to the particular controller you link doesnt work but if its simply a pid controller with a ssr output driving the element your still going to get ...full power...no powrer... full power... no power,

what you would want would some pulsewidth modulation in conjunction with the controller, the pwm will let you control the effective power output of the element in the on state,


PID controls power over time, so PID can reduce heat density. so long as the PID period setting is short enough. it will work just as well as a dimmer.

indeed it does however your integral setting would need to be awfully fast to achieve this kind of control, also if the error was very high the element would be being driven pretty close to the full power until the error reduced somewhat. i would suggest with heat control being relatively slow this fast of integral would be less than ideal.
