G,day all!

I will be finalising an order from G&G early this week.

1 SS 70L pot coming my way :beerbang:

But which burner?

I can either get the Turkey Burner or the Mongolian burner, at this stage I am leaning toward the Mongolian mainly because of the noise facter which I brought up in another thread.

However, there seems to be an issue of soot at lower flame with the Mongolian and G&G said that they have had one comment that with a 9kg cyl at half full the intensity dies back, but again this was mentioned only once!

They use one at the shop with great results, but use a much bigger cylinder, my plan is to get it mains connected (if this is possible) which with a different regulator may overcome this problem.

Can anyone who owns or knows someone with a Mongolian burner be able to give me some feed back? any information would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a mongolian, and am just in the process of setting it up. Puts out heaps more heat than my old 4 ring, and doesn't make too much noise. I've see a turnkey burner going before and they are quite loud.

You can adjust the flame a bit, but you will get some yellow, as to how much soot that puts on pots I can't say, as I haven't tried it. However there was no visible soot coming off.

You cannot connect the mongolian or turkey burner from G&G to mains gas, as they are designed for LPG. You can buy Natural Gas versions of the mongolian from specialist gas suppliers though.

Thanks Rex,

Yeah the noise is an issue for me which is why the Mongolian is quite appealing.

I had a pipe installed for the BBQ when we had new gas lines put in, its not set up yet the pipe is just there waiting.

I was told by a BBQ shop that a different reg was all that was required to run a BBQ and I was hoping a burner would be similar.

G'day Yard glass,

Monglolian burner is $55 (no stand)

Turkey burner is $50 with stand
$49 HP reg

I priced a 70L pot in Adelaide on friday for $462
G&G price is $299 but they are currently having a 20% off sale at the moment which it about $240
so I'm biting the bullet at last

cheers :chug:

I first bought a Monglolian burner for boiling the kettle (aprox 80L capacity I do 45L batches) but found there is very little control over the heat they give off as as soon as you turn it down it starts sooting up. I now use it on the HLT where it works a treat and replaced it with a turkey burner on the kettle. The turkey burner works well as you can turn it right up to get up to boil and then wind it way down to avoid boil overs. As far as noise goes I brew in the shed so the are both loud but not annoyingly so.

Regards Derrick

cheers Boiler,

didn't realise the pots were quite so pricey,

might have to sneak it past the Dept of War. ;)

thanks

Crazy,

Others have said that the Turkey burner is really noisy while bringing wort to the boil but once turned down to maintain the boil its much quieter .....

Have you found this

Yard Glass,

Good luck with the minister for war and finance, I have to say mine's a bewdy very ubderstanding and supportive even though she does'nt like beer.

Gooday Boiler boy
I have travelled this road and I own a Mongolian Wok Burner and a Turkey burner. I have to say the Turkey burner is the one to buy. It is not much more noisy than the Wok burner. The Turkey Burner is so much easier to controll once the wort is boiling.
If you want to buy my Wok burner you can have it for $40.00 with the Reg and lead.
Cheers Altstart

Understand YG,

and i'm envious of the chest freezer well done
