Hello everyone,
Not sure if I'm meant to ask this here but can someone put me onto the distributor on Briess White Sorghum Syrup please? I have just been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease and have to get my LHBS to start stocking and they aren't sure on where to get it.
Cheers!

That sucks mate.

Could be a good opportunity to get into the wonderful world of cider making. You can make some rippers at home from kits, store bought juice or pressed apples. There are also quite a few good options for cider yeast. I've used wyeast cider, white wine and champagne yeast all with great results. Others have also used US05 for a quick and easy drinking drop.

Thanks for that Nibbo! Will let them know mate.

Thanks for the replies fellas!!!!

Yes, Ceoliacs is a bit of a bummer but it could be worse of coarse. I have already made one of the Mangrove Jacks Apple Cider kits. Was the Spiced Apple one. It came out really nice! The flavour is a bit different to normal apple cider but once you are used to its flavour it was great! Just made it simple as you can get: The kit and 1kg of dextrose. Brewed at 20*C. Beautiful! I have another of their kits (plain apple) ready to put on once my last gluten brews are finished. Will be looking into brewing cider from Apple Juice in the future.

I am keen to see how the gluten free beer goes. I have been reading a bit on it and have a mate dropping off the ingredients today from a home brew shop in Townsville. Will see how I go with it anyway.

Thanks again!

The brew shop at peakhurst sell ESB sorghum syrup
Same stuff, just re-branded Briess.

I recently made a corker of a gluten free beer. Standard APA. Throw lots of Mosaic hops at it late in the boil, and again for dry hop, and it masks/complements the sorghum nicely. If it looks a bit pale and cider-like for you, you can throw a bit of dark candi sugar into the fermenter to give it a bit of colour (as well as imparting a few flavours and increasing the alcohol content).

That beer I mentioned above I made for a Coeliac mate of mine, and he reckons it's the best gluten free beer he's tried. If you keep at it, I'm sure you can do even better.

Surprised there is a LHBS near Tieri. Moranbah , Clermont , Blackwater maybe ? There's FA else out that way of any size.

Sorghum syrup is made with enzymes experimenting with enzymes may be an option .Sorghum can also be malted may not be a commercially viable .Sake making process may also be an option to convert gluten free grain.

It over in Emerald mate. They are nice people to deal with. They carry a fair range of stock also.

This is the shop I got my first few brews from to get me away http://homebrewerswarehouse.com.au/index.php?route=product/category&path=46_59 . The bloke I spoke with was really helpful with suggesting different things to do with the brews and ways to improve them. I am keen on the Hefeweizen style as I LOVE Bavarian Weissbier!

Thanks for the recipe mate! I will have a go at it in the future. Where do you get the dark candi sugar from?

I just buy it from The Brew Shop (my LHBS), but I'm pretty sure most home brew shops would stock it. It's not a vital ingredient, but it does provide a bit of colour to an otherwise very pale brew. 100g in ~20L took me from a very pale straw up to almost gold in colour - enough to make it look like beer rather than cider.

****! Got a way better LHBS out there than here in Muck-Eye. Will have to have a squiz next time I'm out Emerald way.

Cheers.
