g,day all. in todays adelaide advertiser in the whats your problem page (77),a querie about stinging nettles was asked and in the reply it says that the young shoots can be used to make a superb nettle tea, wine or beer! so is anyone game?..... bring on the nettle beer jokes. cheers...spog....

ummm might be one for the new brewery in the barossa valley to compliment the "BEE STING" beer could sorta do a mix 50/50 a bee sting beer with a real sting in it.

del

I grew up in a village in the UK and once a year my sister used to make nettle wine (it wasn't alcoholic).

I probably haven't tried it in over 20 years but you have brought the memories of it flooding back.

Unique flavour, really refreshing and moorish. Been racking my brain trying to describe the flavour and I just can't put my finger on it. Best I can come up with is spring flowers, subtle sweet grassy honey flavours.

Anyway thanks spog for the nostalgia trip and also really interested in any that have made nettle wine and beer.

This was discussed recently - Had nettle beer in the Uk last year - very nice :chug:

Ditto Shonky.....they used to make nettle wine where I came from in England........and a soft drink called Dandelion and Burdock, using the leaves from said plants!!! That was beautiful.
Cheers

Sorry to be a thread title nazi but could you please add some extra subject matter to your thread titles when your posting about a specific topic. I edited the title to include 'stinging nettles' rather than simply just 'brewing addition'.

Thanx and happy brewing.

If anyone is keen on this i would suggest giving tom smit of jovial monk a ring as i would be pretty sure it would be something he would or has tried considering the style of brews he trys to do.

Cheers
